“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

Family Fun Day

Since 2005, I have been director of Baptist Park, a Christian summer camp in the northernmost part of Maine.  In an attempt to promote the camp ministry we have held a "family fun day"; an open house on a Saturday.  This year's family fun day was last weekend.  We awoke to a pounding rainstorm, so we were not optimistic.

We had no one for the first two hours.  While this was a little discouraging, it was also a nice, relaxed time to connect with the staff.  At one point, I blew up a balloon and began squeaking it in the ear of Michael, a local youth pastor and a senior counselor here at camp.   I should have known never to mess with a youth pastor!  You see, Michael is a BIG guy.  He threw me over his shoulder and put me out in the rain!  What could I do... I asked for it.  Nothing quite like summer camp hijinx.

Well, if you want to get people out, one sure way is to feed them.  Sure enough, by lunch time we had a few families arrive.  Not the crowd we had last year, but not bad for a cold rainy day.  One was even a reported from a local paper doing a story on the camp. After a meal of hot dogs, cole slaw and chips, we went to the tabernacle where I did a 45 minute show for the small crowd.

The nicest part of the show is that I have five CITs who I taught to juggle (one being my daughter, Rose). This allowed us to do our "Beautiful, Scandalous Night" routine as the closing act.  I don't know if this underattended event helped promote the camp, but it ended up being a fun, intimate Saturday for all who were there.
