“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

Community Dinner, Lewiston Root Cellar

The Root Cellar is an inner city mission in Lewiston, Maine.  Housed in a low income neighborhood made up mostly of African immigrants and refugees, the Root Cellar offers youth group, after school care, a food pantry, legal support and more to their neighbors.  We have been doing shows there, as well as their sister mission in Portland, for many years, and last week we performed while a crew of people from our little church in Casco, Maine prepared and served a full turkey dinner with all the fixings.

Under the supervision of Judy, the lady who runs our food pantry in Casco, my wife Sue and several other people prepared the meal in the Root Cellar kitchen. While that was going on, a group of teens started to gather in the large room where I was setting up.  These young people were primarily from Kenya, and were very respectful as we broke the ice.  I learned that they were not coming to the show, but they were part of the youth group who were going skiing at a local mountain.  Since they weren't staying, I obliged requests t do a few tricks, introduce them to the doves and bunny, and teach them how to juggle.  It was a fun, impromptu fellowship time.

The supper crowd began to arrive soon after the van of skiers headed out.  It was a smaller group than usual, perhaps due to a snowstorm earlier that day.  Nonetheless, the audience was attentive and responsive.  I continue to perform the passe-passe bottles on a regular basis (See my blog "He Came Bearing Gifts")  and I continue to focus on the fruits of the Spirit in my closing routine/message.  I know that the staff there are faithful to follow up on what I share, as they promised they will.

And there were enough leftovers for the youth group to have a dinner the following evening!
