“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

Clown Camp

For the past few summers, Windham Christian Academy (the school where I teach in suburban Portland, Maine) has held day camps for local kids. While the summer of 2020 has had its challenges, we were able to hold a few day camps even during this era of covid-19.  Last week we had a Clown Camp for upper elementary and middle school children, and eight signed up. I was blessed to be the leader of the week.

Each day began wth a 40-45 minute show that I did. This was meant to inspire the kids to develop their skills as well as start the day with some devotional thoughts.  Then we would follw that up with juggling time.  The campers tried their hands at juggling balls, silks, diabolos, devil sticks, spinning plates, and- for the more advanced jugglers- clubs and machetes.  This was also a time to work on stilts, balance boards, and unicycles.

After a recess / snack break, each day then had a special focus.  On Monday, my wife, Sue, joined me to tteach balloon sculpture.  On Tuesday, a lady from our home church came by to teach tumbling.  Then, I taught mime and general clowning on Wednesday, home made magic on Thursday, and clown make up on Friday.  Every camper ended the week by going home with a colorful clown face.  But the final event of the week was perhaps the most popular.  A camper chosen at random (in this case, a fourth grader named Eva) got to hit me with a cream pie.  You can see pictures of this and the make up on the gallery portion of this web site.
