“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

First Day in Uganda

We woke up in the guest house of Agape House ministry this morning to the sound of dozens of little children playing in the yard next door. As quickly as we could, we got ready and went to join them. These are the preschool age children of the over 100 total children Agape serves.

We were greeted warmly by the staff at the gate, and quickly settled into the playful melee of 38 kids. Some sat in our laps, played toss with us, and one fell asleep in Sue's arms. Being in the almost empty nest but not yet grandparents stage, this was all wonderful. Rose had children in her arms constantly too. Some of the staff at the home don't seem much older than Rose, and they have already swapped Facebook information.

At one point one of the staff people began shouting, "Monkey, monkey!" Sure enough, two monkeys were on top of the garage, and we watched them for quite a while.

After helping with lunch and washing the children before their naps, Jospeh took us around the city of Kampala and eventually out for lunch. Kampala is the capital city, and we saw the parliament building and presidential mansion. More fascinating to me we're seeing a large congregation of muslims outside their mosque for Friday prayers, women carrying large bunches of bananas on their heads, large horned cattle roaming the side streets, and the huge number of motorcyclists, all of whom seemed to think that, if their bike could fit through there, they were allowed to go their. They had no rhyme or rhythm to where they went or what vehicle they cut in front of.

We are now back in the guest house for a break, and probably an early night.

PS: I did what I thought was impossible on this trip. I went 48 hours without a cup of coffee! From the time we left Maine on the morning of the 4th until Joseph took us out to lunch, I didn't have any of my precious joe. I survived, but hope not to have to do it again any time soon.
