“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

A Piece of Bosco (Part One)

I think it was 1991 or 92.  I was working late in my elementary resource classroom when a lady walked in.  She introduced herself as a new member of the custodial staff at the middle school in town.  She said she had heard I was a juggler, and she was, too.  We talked shop for 20 minutes or so, and before she left, she gave me four back issues of Jugglers' World magazine from 1988.

Once I was home, I poured over the magazines, only to find an article entitles "A Patron Saint for Jugglers".  (See link here:  http://www.juggle.org/history/archives/jugmags/40-4/40-4,p38.htm )  It seems Father John Bosco, an Italian priest, was a juggler, magician and acrobat.  He used his circus skills, in part, to attract attention from the street urchins at the market place, then invited those who were orphaned to live in the orphanage he had started outside of town.  Since I'm not a Catholic, I don't believe in patron saints, per se, but, having since read his biography and little bit of his own writings, he seems to have been a true believer in Jesus.

A few months after the 'chance' meeting with the juggling custodian, I asked the custodian in my building about her.  He told me she had already resigned her position in the district and had moved on.  How like a juggler!  But I frequently thought of how God orchestrated all those little details.  I never met the woman before or since, but when we did meet, she happened to have magazines she was willing to give me.  The magazines could have been any editions, but they happened to be from 1988, which is when JW happened to decide to run an article about Father Bosco.

But that's just the beginning of the story.
