I love the Root Cellar. This inner city mission in Portland, Maine has been serving the Munjoy Hill neighborhood since the mid 1980's.  This summer I'll be at the Root Cellar each Thursday through the month of July. They are having a day camp in conjunction with the local school's summer school program.  After a mornnig of academic review in the area schools, the kids come to the Root Cellar for crafts, sports, dance, and juggling.

The first week of this program just occured, and I had a blast on Thursday - my assigned day.  I did 45 minute shows for two age groups, and each show was followed immediately by a 'workshop' in which the kids had a chance to try their hands at spinning plates, juggling silks, balance boards, and balancing peacock feathers.  Yes, actual feathers from peacocks.  Since these plumes are so long and light, they are perfect to learn to balance on fingertips, hands, and even noses and chins.  

The older group, of course, was more capable with the various props, but both groups had fun.  More importantly, I was honored to be part of this superb mission sharing the love of Jesus in a simple, practical way.  The volunteers there are terrific to work with, and I look forward to returning next week.
