“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

LOL at East Point Church

Maine always ranks in the top five most secular states in the country, so it's a stretch to call East Point Church in South Portland a mega-church, but by northern New England standards, I suppose it is.  They average around 1500 attendees each Sunday, have an indoor soccer field, a gym with two full basketball courts, and a youth group that has more members than most churches in Maine.  So when my LOL students were invited to perform for the East Point youth group, including high schoolers (gasp!) there was lots of nervous energy.

Actually, the show was rescheduled twice due to covid outbreaks in my class, but we finally got to do it last weekend.  Although I had performed their in the past, I was still a bit overwhelmed by the size of East Point when I arrived to set up.  I was greeted by two of my 7th graders who attend this youth group, and they were so excited that their ministry would be the performing for their group.  I was overwhelmed again, but this time by the blessing of being a teacher of kids who get excited to show off their church, and to be a voice to their peers.

The kids continued to bless me as more arrived.  They set up most of the show alone because I was invited to join the youth team in prayer.  The number of people involved in their youth group is greater than a lot of church's actual youth groups!

Then it was show time.  It was the best show of the year, and every student has expressed this when we debriefed about it the next day at school.  Dillon outdid himself in "I Want to Know What  Love Is".  The East Point high school girls cheered every time he was 'rejected' in the skit, which only kindled him to play his character more and more convincingly.  The juggling highlight was Jake who juggled a sickle, a machete and a battle axe flawlessly for the first time in LOL history!  We ended with "Beautiful, Scandalous Night" which had a powerful impact on many.  When we were finished, their head youth leader told me she would try to get us in for a Sunday morning for the whole congregation; all 1500!
