The high school students at Windham Christian Academy hosted a Christmas party today for the Portland Root Cellar, an inner city mission serving in a neighborhood of mostly African immigrants.  25 kids from the Root Cellar arrived by bus with their chaperones shortly after our school dismissed.  Our own third and fourth graders were also invited to the party, as their class ministry is a monthly visit to the Root Cellar’s after school program.  Friendships have begun to develop between the two groups of kids.

The party included indoor soccer, four square, crafts, carnival games, prizes, pizza and other snacks.  I did some walk-around juggling for the kids while they were between activities; Thisis always fun and much lower-pressure than doing a full stage show.  The day ended with a student doing an illusion that led into the reading of the Christmas story from a children’s Bible.  The ids said good-bye with the reminder that our 3^rd and 4^th graders would see them next month, and LOL would be coming to Portland to do a short for them in January as well.
