Bridgton Health Care

Sep 23 2018

I do four shows a year at the Bridgton Health Care, my town's local nursing home. It's easy for this to become pretty routine: The low hanging chandeliers that I need to avoid when I juggle. The lady who always comes up to me and says,"I think you know my son." My response, "Yes, I do. He knows more scripture than anyone I've ever met." Old Dot, still going strong, and always making sure she's the center of my attention. Even the activities director, a 30 year friend of my wife, who is always so cheerful and encouraging.

So this time I decided to at least mix up my show. I did three different dove productions to open the show. I did my single hat routine, my silk juggling routine and my devil sticks routine, and illusions including the magic teapot and self repairing crown. And I did something I've never done before. I brought my I pad and showed some pictures of our trip from Africa.

It was not a perfect show. I totally forgot to produce the rabbit. The poor guy was hiding in his secret space the whole time. While most of my juggling routines were without error, I dropped more than once in my three ball routine to Mahalia Jackson's "When the Saints Go Marching In". Nonetheless, it was a nice morning at Bridgton Health Care, and I enjoyed mixing up my normal set there.

And, sure enough, as I was packing up, a certain resident approached me and said,"I think you know my son..."
