We have been back from Uganda exactly three months, and since returning we have been raising funds to pay for a well for the Buyala Children's School where we visited one day. Actually, much of,the fund raising has been organized by my wife's friend, Jamie. She organized a chili cook off today at the Bridgton Community Center, and we reached our goal of $700, giving us a total of $5000 for the school.

Besides being a successful fundraiser, we had a great time. I entered my Vermont maple chili (not actually mine; I found the recipe on line and had never made it before this morning) and Sue entered her usual delicious chili. In the end, neither one of us won, but we had a lot of fun talking smack with each other and some of the other chefs. The eight year old boy sitting next to me found it all very funny, and I tried to teach him how to trash talk.

The turn out was terrific: a lot of people from town, as well as the school where we work, and friends from church. Little Falls Church, a good 45 minute drive away, had a great showing. As usual, Jamie did a terrific job promoting, organizing and running the event. And we can now get the funds to Buyala for,their well.
