Raggedy Anne

Mar 18 2011

Raggedy Anne showed up at school today
Finding Barbies, again, at each turn,
The plastic girls mock Anne’s dowdiness,
Yet the teachers still expect her to learn.

With flaming red hair and an apron
She should stand out as not just one more clone.
Yet she spends every school day unnoticed
And eternal lunch breaks eating alone.

Herds of young men (or is it young Ken)
Turn empty heads toward the Barbies and stare
At their disproportionate PVC bodies,
And waist length nylon hair.

When Raggedy walks down the hallway
The Kens laugh at her pigtails and size
And the boys who were raised to know better
Say nothing, diverting their eyes.

But the doll maker knows rags and cotton
Are warmer than stiff, rigid plastic
And aprons absorb more secrets and tears
Than any cold, hard, nine inch stick

As for the young men (or is it young Ken)
So arrogantly loud in the hall,
The doll makers knows, if you’d just sneak a peek,
You’d see they’re not really men at all

"What a wonderful ministry to both children and adults.  In past years it has been a struggle to arrange programing that would hold the attention of all ages, but also challenge each heart with God's gift of Salvation.  Thank you for sharing your ministry."  -Sunday School Sup't.
