“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

The Hymns are Hers

20 years ago we did a show that I remember vaguely, at best. We met a local singer named Thelma Kilbreth. To the best of my knowledge, we never met again, but she gave us a copy of a tape of hymns she had recorded. We kept it, listening to it occaisionally.

Then, 15 years ago, we were invited to share our show at a local Baptist church, with one stipulation: Any music we used had to be hymns. I could have tried to get them to change their minds, accepted the show but used our regular music against their wishes, or turned down the show and write them off as intolerant and narrow-minded. Or... try to make it work. We decided to try to make it work. We used two songs off of Thelma's tape. I created a balance board routine to "Standing on the Promises of God" and a hat juggling routine to "Crown Him with Many Crowns". I still use both of these routines from time to time today.

Last night we had a show at the Auburn, Maine Advent Christian Church. I had no intention of using these routines there, because it was primarily an outreach to unchurched, inner city families. Most of the audience wouldn't know the old hymns or even appreciate them musically. But I kept thinking that we should do "Standing on the Promises". It made no sense, but I went with it. what could it hurt?

After the show a couple came up to us and introduced themselves to us. They were Pastor and Thelma Kilbreth. We told them the story of how we came to use her music in our show, and joked about owing her years of royalties. They told us they could get us the same music on CD, which will be a real blessing. Tapes are old school, even for me, and when it eventually breaks I wouldn't have had any way to replace it. Now I do. Furthermore, she was blessed to learn that her music has been used all over New England and beyond for the last 15 years.

Thank you, God, for your divine appointments that we simply call coincidence.
