Hannah, the Magic Chicken

Nov 07 2011

For the first two months of this school year, a 7th grade girl in my class has been bringing her banty chicken to school every Monday for our LOL rehearsals.  Her chicken, Hannah, has not had a part in the show up to this point, but she is faithfully present at each practice.

Today, at break, I was thinking about Hannah, the magic chicken, and inspiration struck!  By adapting a bottle production that the team is already performing, and that I use in my "Johnny's Cafe" routine, I figured Hannah's owner could produce the banty out of 'thin air'.  Sure enough, after brief coaching, the student had mastered the trick.  We made one modification that - Hannah is produced from a sheet of newspaper rather than silks - and it's already performable.

I love the creative process, and I love sharing the creative process with young people.  There is an adrenoline rush that goes with it, and there's nothing quite like it.

"What a wonderful ministry to both children and adults.  In past years it has been a struggle to arrange programing that would hold the attention of all ages, but also challenge each heart with God's gift of Salvation.  Thank you for sharing your ministry."  -Sunday School Sup't.
